What's in... Editor's Blog

Hi, my name is Bébhinn Kelly, I’m the editor of hellwafashion.com. Being a fashion editor in Dubai is an interesting experience. There are highs, lows, hilarity and heaps and heaps and heaps of fashion attitude.

Some days the uber-fashion attitude makes me feel like screaming "we are a long way from Bryant Park" but most days I join right in, play along for the cameras and enjoy it for what it is. On the off days, my constant source of amusement is my inbox, some of the content of which I hope to post here. I can safely say I have never before in my life received such weird, wonderful and whacky e-mails.

Oh yes and in-case you didn't get the memo, I'm a (hate the word feminist) girl power kinda gal, and I plan on using this space to illustrate that point. Enjoy... and please go easy on the comments, I’m sure many people would be highly amused to see me locked up, but jail is no place for my Louboutins.

Turkish delight

When Istanbul was crowned European City of Culture in 2010, Vogue followed up by launching Turkish Vogue the same year, then we knew it was firmly on the fashionista radar. Who hasn’t brought back a find from the old souk or even a cushion from Rifat Ozbek’s boutique? The latter,by the way, has just opened a store in London, called Yastik (the Turkish for cushion) it's a must visit for those looking for a statement accessory for the home.

When Inci Malik, a Turkish entrepreneur and Dubai resident for over a decade, decided to launch theanjelique.com we knew it had to be checked out. Dedicated to bringing Turkish chic to the UAE , the site stocks Belizz jewellery, Ince Topuk shoes and Inci Ozayon homewares; all quirky, handcrafted and unlike anything you’ll find here (yay!).

Each month there’s a theme to the edited pieces which form part of the whole collection. February is all about “Love and Happiness” and if you can’t decide what to buy for a girlfriend, there are some nifty gift certificates available too. Easy to navigate, it makes perfect sense for those of us too busy to schedule a weekend on the Bosphorous. We like!
