Though we had the chance to review the brunch at the Movenpick Ibn Battuta Gate Hotel, it was dinner at Shanghai Chic which we were really, really looking forward to as we had heard that in the context of Chinese restaurants in the city it was Dubai’s best kept secret.

I can safely say that when it comes to the food, it most certainly is. We went for a selection of starters, which were beautifully presented (see picture left), the wasabi prawn was absolutely melt in the mouth, and while I wouldn’t have denied myself the opportunity to taste the rest of the starter selection, I would have been happy to eat a plate of wasabi prawns.

Our mains, were equally delicious, the beef is tender, and the portions are perfect for us figure conscious women. The rather lovely chef Eddie Leony, told us that much of the meat is cooked for over four hours, so that we diners can indulge in fabulous melt in the mouth moments.

Shanghai chic is a deceptively large restaurant, the night we went was actually quite busy however, due to the way the restaurant is laid out,our dining experience was quite intimate.

Despite the fact that our waistlines were urging us not to, we went ahead anyway and ordered dessert, which though plain looking, was absolutely delicious.

A meal for two at Shanghai Chic, with a bottle of house beverage comes in under AED600, which considering the quality of the food is very reasonable.
