What's in... Vintage Collection

It’s not often you come across someone who has turned a personal passion into a professional triumph, but when I heard the story of how Shirley Conlon set up her growing organic beauty business here in Dubai, it made me think of the legendary Estee Lauder and more recently Jo Malone who both mixed lotions and potions in their kitchen and distributed to friends and family before hitting the big time.

Irish born, UAE-based Shirley Conlon’s story begins in childhood when she started selling rosewater perfumes (made from petals from her mother’s garden) to friends at the age of five. She inherited recipes from her grandmother whom she describes as a local sorcerer who had customers for her natural cures travelling to see her from all over Ireland. Shirley’s early interest in all things cosmetic led her to train as a cosmetologist before working in the beauty business for leading brands.

However it was a move to the Middle East six years ago and seeing the impact the climate had on her skin that galvanized Shirley into creating her own products.  She couldn’t find a brand that totally satisfied her or didn’t have some ingredient she was intolerant or allergic too. (I think we all feel her pain there, stressed out spotty skin usually goes hand in hand with a move to our desert town!).

So Shirley Conlon organics was born. Shirley’s products are made by her as opposed to being commissioned on a larger scale to factories. This eliminates the need for harsh preservatives and indeed the ingredient label is refreshingly easy to read – you don’t need a chemistry degree to digest it!
