On Sunday we shopped the closet, today we’re going to deal with A/W’s key trends.
So, what should I buy for A/W?
Buy a copy of mad men on DVD, that’s it…..just kidding, well kinda. Mad men fever has taken a firm hold on fashion, this is particularly evident in Louis Vuitton’s collection. Mad men (the early part at least) is set at a time when ladies were lady like & both sexes wore hats to work.
I’ve left out sweater dressing, aviator jackets etc, & focused on the trends that are best suited to weather in this region, which is not why I left out the socks & shoes trend, only about 1% of the population looks good in socks & shoes & I would hate to be responsible for someone trying it.
Tell me what to look for when I’m shopping:
Mad men: Yay! This season we can all be as stunning as January Jones, well ok maybe not, but at least our sartorial choices can mirror hers. Calf length skirts, dresses belted at the waist, big skirts, pretty much anything you see on Betty Draper or Trudy Campbell will do.
Bows: bows are still around but they’ve moved from Blair waldorf’s head to Louis Vuitton’s shoes. Now people we need to get behind this trend, the more we channel our inner little bow peep the less inspired Marc Jacobs will be design another collection of hairy clogs, & I think you will all agree that that alone is worth going all girly for.
Maxi skirt: If you buy one thing this season, make it a long skirt. This trend is particularly suited to the region & will prevent you getting “red carded” at the mall.
Pants: There’s something for everyone this season, you can do cropped pants like the ladies who lunch in mad men or straight, wide legged and skimming the floor. If you’re lucky enough to have a flat tummy go for high waisted.
I chose the picture left as it's a good illustration of the key trends, the model is wearing bow shoes, high waisted floor skimming trouser & has a nipped in waist. (photo credit: Carolina Herrera A/W show on www.style.com)
